The 2024 Corvette E-Ray – a Fusion of Tradition and Innovation at the Indy 500

In a nod to tradition intertwined with innovation, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway selected the 2024 Corvette E-Ray 3LZ coupe to lead the field.

The Corvette E-Ray, with its Arctic white exterior and sleek two-tone jet black interior, took the Corvette legacy to new heights. Under the hood, it features a groundbreaking fusion with its dual propulsion system combined the raw power of a naturally aspirated V-8 engine with the responsiveness of electrified All-Wheel Drive (eAWD). The 6.2-liter V-8 engine, coupled with an electric motor delivering an additional 160 hp, results in a staggering total of 655 hp, making the E-Ray the quickest production Corvette in history.

Doug Boles, president of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, highlighted the significance of the E-Ray prior to the race: “As we anticipate another record-breaking Indianapolis 500, it’s only fitting that the quickest production Corvette will pace the field. The performance enhancements tested on the track make their way to the street, and the Corvette E-Ray is a prime example of that Chevrolet innovation.”

Designed for year-round performance, the Corvette E-Ray and its eAWD capability showcases its versatility both on and off the track. The E-Ray’s electric drive unit propels it from zero to 60 mph in 2.5 seconds.

The Corvette E-Ray includes wider fenders, quarter panels, and fascias enhancing its aerodynamic profile. Standard ground effects and a spoiler contribute to its performance, while carbon fiber wheels with all-season tires ensure a race-ready appearance and performance in varying conditions.

Scott Bell, global Chevrolet vice president, emphasized the synergy between Chevrolet and IndyCar: “We are proud to announce the E-Ray, which is the first electrified and quickest production Corvette ever, will be pacing the 108th Running of the Indianapolis 500. Chevrolet and INDYCAR share the same spirit of competition and cutting-edge technology, making E-Ray the perfect fit to pace this year’s race.”

The 2024 Indianapolis 500 marked the 35th time a Chevrolet had paced the race since 1948 and the 21st time for a Corvette since 1978. The Corvette E-Ray, with its innovative hybrid technology and iconic design, stabds as a testament to the relentless pursuit of excellence in both performance and sustainability.
