“What’s That You’re Doing?” – AEC Documents & Registrations

Our series “What’s That You’re Doing?” aims to highlight some of the more unique and lesser-known jobs that our colleagues at AEC perform. This time, we sit down with Maria Mazini, who shares a few insights about her work, its challenges, and the importance of her role. Read on to learn about the day-to-day life of a Documents and Registrations Specialist at AEC.

What does a typical day look like in your shoes?

I have to be attentive and concentrated, because in every bureaucratic task there are many details to consider. Even a simple mistake is difficult to correct in the short-term. It also means we have to be patient and good at finding quick but effective solutions. I work with colleagues and service providers in Germany, Canada, Belgium, Sweden and Italy, so I am pretty much constantly switching between German, English and Italian throughout the day.

Do you have a routine you follow throughout the day, or is every day different for you?

In the Documentations team we usually follow a routine in the morning; first we check the payments and credits. If the documents are ready, we send them out immediately. Then, if customs were cleared on vehicles the day before, we can proceed with the registration. These tasks are done daily, and once concluded, we start answering e-mails, checking which vehicles should be inspected, organizing papers of inspections, etc…

How would you describe your job to a five-year-old?

My colleagues and I are the bridge that connects the salesperson and the buyer with the necessary paperwork. For a customer to use their car, they need certain papers, and that is why we are here.

What is the most exciting part of your job?

I really like interacting with so many different people and always learning something new.

What was your dream job as a kid?

I changed my mind many times; I thought about becoming a writer, a therapist, a researcher, or a teacher.

Name the three words that jump to your mind thinking about your job profile.

Responsibility, concentration, and flexibility.

What item do you absolutely need to perform your job?

I need my computer, my phone, our internal file sharing platform, and many, many Excel Sheets.

Which of your achievements makes you most proud?

Nothing makes me happier or prouder than when I can do my job properly and stick to deadlines, which means happy customers. “No man is an island,” and I am also proud to be part of a great team.
